it's winter again

***
This is what we woke up to this morning!
Tons and tons of snow and more still on it's way.
*sigh*

Jay and Sienna planted some veggies and flowers and now they are growing way up high (out of Sienna's reach) waiting for warmer weather so they can be planted outside. See, we do have faith that warmer weather will come eventually. :-D

Thank goodness it's our church's general conference this weekend and we don't need to go anywhere. Every year our church has a "general conference" twice a year, in April and then again in October. Church leaders (men and women) talk and we get to watch it at home on tv. It's always very uplifting and a special weekend for us. Our tradition is to make pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream (and fried eggs for everyone else except me) for supper. Mellow day at home. Lots of uplifting thoughts to make you want to become a better person. Lots of thoughts that make you think and ponder life and spiritual things. If anyone is interested to check it out you can go to our church's website's broadcasting page:
april 2008 LDS general conference
I really like the church's "The World Report" that is broadcast between conference session. Right now I'm listening about the church's welfare/humanitarian aid programs. It is mind blowing, really. Our church does so much "behind the scenes" welfare and humanitarian aid work. Most of it is done by volunteers (LDS and non LDS). It is totally amazing to see the magnitude of the program. The church has cattle ranches, peach orchards, grain & vegetable farms... You name it. Amazing production facilities where all these products are made into ready to use items. At the above link you'll find broadcasting times. You can watch these broadcasts on tv in USA and Canada (in most areas). Everyone else can watch it online and everything is also broadcast to our church buildings all over the world by satellite transmission.
I'm sure no one is really interested about all this. I just can't help but be so proud of the Church and all of it's programs. We even have what is called "Perpetual Education Fund". People in poor countries can get a loan to go to school. They pay back when they can. All funds are received by volunteer donations. Education is the key in helping people get out of poverty (long term help, not just immediate help).
Our "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" is world known and very famous. You can listen to their music during conference as well.
I also LOVE the church's tv commercials (you can see them too between conference sessions). Some of them are so funny yet so touching. Most of them are about the family and how we need to take the time to be with our families.
Anyways, that's all I'll say even though I could go on and on.
I love the church and I'm so proud of all the work it does. Y

I have mentioned this before but it's worth repeating: if anyone is interested in donating money to help the poor & suffering in the world, you can go to LDS Philanthropies website (link in my website list). 100% of the money goes directly to the needy. No money is spent on wages or administration costs. Check it out. There is much suffering in this world and every bit of help helps.
